The Most Intimate Art in a Most Intimate Setting

What makes chamber music so profound and compelling is its intimacy. Chamber music is the individual voice of an instrument in passionate musical conversation with a small circle of others - a conversation we in the audience are privileged to listen in on and thus join. These conversations are about the things that move us most deeply. Love. Death. Longing. Hope. Introspection. Joy. Companionship. Acknowledgement. They are most moving when this intimacy is preserved and heightened. As, for example, when they take place in a living room. Or in a close setting such as the Isabel Bader Theatre, University of Toronto. This festival encourages interaction between musicians and audience both on stage and off. The chance to meet the musicians and share perspectives is encouraged through informal interactions, master classes and performance talks. It is said that stringed instruments, particularly the violin, most closely approximate the human voice. It is fitting that our chamber music festival features both stringed and human voices. We believe that they both have much to say. We invite you to join us for something very special.
